The 1977 European Cup Final took place on May 25, 1977. The match was between Liverpool F.C. and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Liverpool won 3–1 to win their first European Cup a year after they had won the UEFA Cup.

Jones left Wrexham to join his boyhood heroes, Liverpool, when Bob Paisley paid £110,000 for his services in July 1975. Jones was part of the team which won the League championship and reached the finals of the FA Cup and European Cup in 1977. In the summer of 1978, after exactly 100 appearances and 3 goals for the Reds, he returned to Wrexham for £210,000.

Case arrived at Anfield from local non-league club South Liverpool in May 1973. By 1976 he was a first choice midfielder who was a prolific goalscorer for someone in his position, at the end of his first full season he had helped Liverpool to victory in the League championship and the UEFA Cup. Case transferred to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 1981.
After the end of the 1973-74 season, Kennedy signed for Liverpool from Arsenal for £180,000. From 1974-1982 Kennedy made 393 appearances for The Reds and scored 72 goals. Ray is still a favourite amongst Liverpool supporters and was voted in at No.28 on the 2006 poll 100 Players Who Shook The Kop.

Callaghan, a Liverpool supporter as a youngster, joined the Reds as an apprentice on the 28 March 1960. In the autumn of 1978, Callaghan finally left Liverpool after 856 first team appearances, during which he scored 69 goals. He currently holds the record for the most appearances for Liverpool.

Fowler's career began with Liverpool. He signed as a youth team player on leaving school in 1991, signing professional terms on his 17th birthday,in 1992.
In the 1994–95 season, Fowler was an ever-present for Liverpool, playing in all of their 57 competitive matches, including the victory in the 1995 League Cup final, and a match against Arsenal in which he scored a hat-trick in four minutes and 33 seconds, a Premiership record. Fowler was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year in two consecutive years in 1995 and 1996, a feat equalled only by Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney.
The 2000–0 season was Fowler's most successful season. He appeared in three finals, scoring 17 goals and lifting three trophies in a unique cup treble.
Fowler scored 120 Premiership goals for Liverpool in an eight year period.
