In May 2006 Murphy signed for Scunthorpe after being released by Sunderland. He had an excellent 2006–07 season, and was an integral part of the team that led Scunthorpe to the League One trophy. He was in the League One team of the season, and also won the golden glove (award for most clean sheets). He was also named League One player of the month for February 2007.

A former youth trainee at the Scunthorpe, Matt Sparrow is the club's longest-serving player. In August 2007, he was offered a new three-year contract with the club.
Hayes signed for Scunthorpe United in 2002. He made over 115 appearances, scoring 33 goals. Hayes scored 19 goals in one season to help Scunthorpe gain promotion to League One in 2004-2005. Hayes left Scunthorpe in 2005 and returned on 13th June 2007.

Woolford joined Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract in August 2008, with the fee being believed to be a six-figure sum with a sell-on clause. He scored four minutes into his first start for Scunthorpe against Brighton & Hove Albion on 6 September, giving his side the lead, in a match which eventually finished 4–1.

Hurst was loaned out to Scunthorpe United from Sheffield United on 31st January 2007 until the end of the season. He became a permanent signing for Scunthorpe at the end of the season, in a £200,000 deal. He is a versatile player, he can play all across the midfield or forward line.
